Who We Are
The Good Vibe Project is a weekly hub for autistic adults, running every Tuesday 10am – 3:30pm at the Polish Church on Fitzwilliam Street, Huddersfield. We first opened the hub on the 28th April 2023.
The volunteers at the good vibe project are autistic themselves, and so have personal experience in how to work with and encourage autistic individuals. There is currently no drop-in centre which ASD adults can access to socialize, make friends, learn new skills etc. Existing day centers are costly thus, not accessible to those on low incomes. Furthermore, they do not operate a drop-in service, nor do they allow carers/family to access their services alongside ASD adults.
The Good Vibe Project aims to remove these barriers and help ASD adults reach their full potential. It will run indefinitely at the same time and place every week, with drop-in/open access provision.
The venue is fully accessible and close to the train and bus station. The sessions include numerous activities including cooking, baking, and eating together. We have so far provided sessions of creative writing, arts and crafts, yoga, Zumba, Just Dance, karaoke, miniature figure painting, felting, card making, training to use public transport, and health and wellbeing sessions.
We aim to invite professionals from different fields, e.g. employment, mental health, well-being, sports activities, art, planning, and organisation. Our project will help reduce social isolation, fight depression and loneliness, and help members to gain new skills and to improve their mental health. It will give a sense of purpose and routine to Autistic Adults in Kirklees and the surrounding areas.
We are an inclusive provision to all ethnic communities, all ages 16+, and from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We take regular feedback from service users and their families to enable us to shape the future of the project. We post regular updates on our social media and WhatsApp group with photos from past sessions, and information about future sessions. We also have printed leaflets and handmade posters, which we have distributed around the local area.
